Present Perfect vs Present Perfect Continuous 

(have +V3)             ( have + been + V-ing ) 

1. We use PPC when we want to emphasise  the length of an action 

EG . She has been working on that case for over a month . 

2. We use PPC when the result of the action is seen/ heard / smelt ...now 

Eg. My mum has been cooking ! There is a delicious smell in the kitchen .

She has been speaking to the teacher for two hours . 

2. How long have you been trying to phone me ? 

I have been trying to phone you since the beginning of the morning / dawn .

He has been practising the piano since he started the fifth grade .
